Blue-Shift

Blue-Shift is a speedster, but her life is far from easy. Beth Sanders has recently moved to a new city, away from her family and friends: the only way to be sure she wouldn’t be recognised as Blue-Shift after discovering her Empowered Abilities. She’s isolated and alone, so it’s only natural she should look for someone to spend time with... After meeting someone online, they agreed to have a meal together in real life and get to know each other. When Beth arrived, however, someone else was there... someone who claimed to be just passing through, before disappearing into a pool of shadows without a trace. Saddened and feeling more isolated than ever, Beth decided to roam the streets as Blue-Shift. When she found a bank robbery in progress, she met her first set of Empowered criminals: Shira and Daniel. During the course of stopping the robbery, she was seriously injured. That’s when the criminals did something Beth could never have predicted: they saved her from the police and took her to their home. When she had recovered enough to leave, she realised how much of a risk they had taken... and how much she now had to trust them because they knew her secret. Her enemies had become some sort of allies...

Lacuna

Chris Jameson was the victim of a violent inner city crime when he was 8 years old, during which his parents were killed in a botched home robbery. They only stole the TV, which was found two miles down the road, chucked in a ditch. Chris is haunted by that memory. Fear drove him for the next ten years, causing him to board up his room and walk with paranoid mistrust every day. It is a burden he’s carried through counselling sessions, juvenile crime, the manifestation of his Empowered Abilities and beyond. Generally bad with people, Chris doesn’t fit in with other kids his age. He has no friends either in or outside of school and is particularly clumsy around women. For him, friends are a distraction: he doesn’t see the use in pretending to laugh, or enjoy being around people who can’t possibly understand what he’s going through. When he manifested Empowered Abilities, he took the name Lacuna and started to exact deadly and brutal revenge for his parents on every violent criminal he could find. He believed that this is the way to stop his nightmares: in Lacuna’s eyes, beating up bad guys wasn’t about saving the innocent; it was a continuing series of retributions. He never doubted this course for a moment… until he met Penumbra.
