I believe that roleplaying games are, first and foremost, about collaborative storytelling. Sometimes, I find
that gets lost in the scramble through rulebooks. I believe that people should be able to relax and enjoy the story rather than focusing on rules, but still have the possibility of failure, and I decided to make a “lighter” game to provide that.
With the team that worked on Era: The Consortium back together, we created a game with superb writing and artwork. We refined the existing rules, making them even easier to learn. Character creation was shortened to a 2-minute process, making getting started even easier!
In Era: Lyres, you are not an adventurer. You aren’t good enough, you would never make it as one!
But an adventurer when he returns to town is nothing more than a person with a sword and a story. And you and your friends could do that…
You go out and spend your life savings on a sword. You strap it to your back and travel to the great city of Yarnolth. You kick open the door of the nearest tavern, the dust from your travels shaking loose as you stride in.
At the top of your voice, you declare “I just killed a dragon on that mountain!”. The patrons gather round to hear your story, as is the custom there. Your friends sit with you and you recount your tale…
Era: Lyres is a Fantasy storytelling game like no other!
The players, pretending to be adventurers, tell a combined story to the GM, who plays as the audience. Rolls are conducted to see whether the audience believes the story, and contests are declared, from an arm wrestle with the strongest to an archery contest outside, to decide if you really are as talented as you say.
If you succeed, you gain riches beyond your dreams. If you fail, you will be arrested and executed by the King’s men.
Do you have what it takes?
