Hi everyone!
Today, I’m asked to “Describe a tricky RPG experience that you enjoyed.”
Again, I am not having too much trouble with this one, as one particular occasion stands out in my mind – Con-Tingency 2018.
Con-Tingency is a UK convention run by a fantastic team of people and, if you live in the UK, I cannot recommend it more. Dave, one of the organisers, asked me in December 2017 (at Dragonmeet), if I would go to this one (in January 2018). At the time, I had a job, so I declined, but I finished my contract earlier than expected and became free. I decided that I would go after all.
That made December and early January the space in which I had to plan for a large number of Era game sessions. I chose to run 11 4-hour slots in the 5 days of the convention: pretty ambitious, but I figured if I was there to show off some games to the attendees, I may as well do my best!
It was extremely intense, to say the least. I was running games constantly from the beginning to the end of the day, and I met some amazing people.
I was told that my games were good – a few people even came back to play quite a few different ones, so I hope that it was true!
But yes, the idea of prepping for a convention of that intensity in that length of time was quite galling. I’ll be back there this year, but this time I’ve had over 6 months to prepare! With a couple of other GMs running Era games as well, I think this one is going to be fantastic!
